Ep. 129 Dr. Alicia Britt Chole on Disillusionment in the Night

I could not be more thrilled to have one of my favorite authors of all time on the podcast today! I only heard about Dr. Alicia Britt Chole a few years ago, but since have fallen in love with her work as I have read it over and over and over. My journey with her as an author started with the book Anonymous, which I highly recommend, but it continued with her newest book, The Night is Normal, which is what we talk about on the podcast today.

Dr. Alicia shares with us how disillusionment is not the negative idea we've often assumed it to be. Disillusionment means our illusions about God, us, and others are being taken away - and that's a good thing, y'all! But it can be a painful process. Often physical suffering throws us into the cycle of disillusionment, and Dr. Alicia shares about her own recurrences of cancer on the show today. But many things can lead to disillusionment, and we cover the broad spectrum in our interview today.

Often when we feel disillusioned, we bail. We deconstruct our faith or we walk away from God and we bail, but Dr. Alicia provides us a framework for how we can actually grow closer to God through our night seasons of disillusionment. Like her books are some of the most cherished works of wisdom on my bookshelf now, so this episode is one of my favorites of all time. I hope you enjoy her as much as I did!
